Earn an MS in Communication and Leadership at Canisius College

The master’s degree in communication and leadership meets the emerging need for a blended approach to organizational leadership. Leaders of Fortune 500 companies cite communication as their most important function, spending 70-80 percent of their efforts communicating. A growing number of CEOs point to organizational effectiveness, intellectual capital and people as critical elements required to compete and survive in today’s global economy. Effective leaders in the 21st century must have the ability to formulate and effectively communicate their ideas with the conviction and power to inspire and motivate. Leaders must also empower, foster creativity and promote collaboration and relationship building in order to effectively achieve goals.

The value of a Canisius MS in Communication and Leadership

Persuasion and other communication skills are strong predictors of performance, often outstripping both intelligence and personality traits. Gain the edge needed for success and follow in the footsteps of many high-level corporate managers; managers in not-for-profit organizations; administrators of hospitals, colleges and universities; directors of human resource organizations; and business consultants. Enhance your communication competency and leadership effectiveness in today’s business world.

A degree in communication and leadership will develop your ability to:
  • Think critically when communicating expectations and goals
  • Bridge relationship networks
  • Influence and motivate others within an organizational setting.
  • Collaborate effectively
  • Develop communication and leadership frameworks and capabilities that you can use throughout your career

Concentrations of Study
The program offers three concentrations of study to meet today’s needs: Organizational Leadership, Managing Not-for-Profit Organizations and Integrated Marketing Communication

  • Organizational Leadership
Today’s organizational leaders must be able to prudently influence and inspire others through effective communication. Students develop effective skills in areas such as persuasion and influence, conflict management, relationship building and effective collaboration.

  • Managing Not-for-Profit Organizations
Leaders in not-for-profit organizations must meet the challenges of fundraising, long-range planning and development in a time when competition for resources is increasing. Students develop effective skills in relationship building, effective collaboration, and development.

  • Integrated Marketing Communication
Today’s environment demands that marketers differentiate their products or services through reputation and within the consumers’ relationship with the brand. Students develop effective two-way communication skills, marketing persuasion and an understanding of consumer behavior.
