Fitzpatrick Leadership FellowsWHAT?
- Two Fitzpatrick Leadership Fellows will earn $1,000 per semester for the 2009-10 academic year.
- Fellows will develop and implement public affairs programming.
- Public affairs programming should engage an issue that is, or may become, the subject of public discussion or public policy. The programming should be intended to educate the Canisius community regarding this issue. The programming may involve a lecture, but it must involve more than that.
- Fellows will receive a budget and guidance from the Fitzpatrick Institute.
- Fellows will collect information on the process of developing and implementing public affairs programming.
- Fellows will serve on the Advisory Committee of the Fitzpatrick Institute.
WHO?
All Canisius College freshman through junior undergraduates with:
- A desire to develop leadership skills.
- A desire to develop community awareness about an issue.
- A cumulative QPA of 2.5 or higher.
WHEN?
- Fellows will serve Fall 2010 and Spring 2011.
- Programming will be presented in Spring 2010.
- Applications are due by March 31, 2010.
- Fellows will be announced on April 30, 2010.

- The application process may consist of two steps.
- The first step involves written material, including:
- A one page programming proposal that includes a rationale for the proposal.
- One letter of reference attesting to the applicant's potential for leadership.
- One copy of an unofficial transcript.
- The second step involves a personal interview. The Director will select the most compelling proposals and schedule an oral interview with him and members of the Fitzpatrick Institute Advisory Committee.
Fitzpatrick Leadership Fellows will be selected by the Director and announced on April 30, 2010.
WHY?
- To provide public affairs programming by and for Canisius College students.
- To develop the leadership skills of Fellows.
- To expose the Canisius College community to ideas for consideration and reflection.
