Dr. Valone received his undergraduate and masters level training at the Pennsylvania State University.  He did his doctoral work at the University of Michigan where he earned his PhD with a dissertation on the Huguenots in the War of the Spanish Marriages.

He has taught at Canisius College since the early 1960’s.  A specialist in early modern Europe, he has published a monograph entitled Huguenot Politics, 1601-1622.

His teaching interests now focus on the areas of historiography and research methods.  Each year he teaches a two semester sequence in the History Honors program in these two areas.

Since 1978 he has been associate dean of the Wehle School of Business, where his principal role is to oversee undergraduate business education at Canisius College. 

For the past 15 years, Dr. Valone has served as the secretary of the New York State Association of European historians. 

Dr. Valone is married to Geraldine Guzik Valone.  They have four sons: Stephen, Thomas, David and Robert, and four grandchildren: Peter, Thomas, Alexander and Sydney Jayne.
