The Canisius College Internship Program has a longstanding commitment of connecting students with employers for experiential learning opportunities.  Through the Internship Program students extend learning beyond the classroom and develop essential career skills. Interns provide employers a cost-effective, skilled workforce and serve as a meaningful bridge between the college and the greater community.

Benefits of interns for your company:
  • Completing important short term projects
  • Lending meaningful value when staffing is tight
  • Providing innovative ideas and technology assistance
  • Improving efficiency by offering creative solutions to problems
  • Providing an opportunity to test talent for potential full-time hires
What is my organizations responsibility?
The organization supervises the student’s activity and makes the internship learning opportunity.

What are the different types of internships?
  • Internships can be offered as paid and students can elect to earn credit at the same time (with the exception of accounting majors who cannot earn credit).
  • Although it is recommended that students do internships for credit, it is an option and most Canisius academic programs do not require them for graduation. If the internship is unpaid, the US Department of Labor requires that the internship be structured as a learning experience with certain defined criteria.
  • If the student is seeking credit, departments determine academic approval and student eligibility requirements.  Most programs require a minimum of 120 hours of work to receive three credit hours.
When do internships begin?
Internships usually begin in early September or January, while summer internships begin at the end of May or June.

Students can participate in more than one internship depending on their schedules, and the needs and desires of the organization.

How do I post an available internship?
For first time internship participants, complete and submit the on-line employer registration form. (MS Word .doc)

Upon submission, your internship opportunity will be posted on College Central, an on-line database of internship and job opportunities which Canisius students can search.

You will receive e-mail notification when your internship has been posted.  In that notification you will also receive an access id and password so you can register on College Central.

As a registered employer, you can view and edit your posting, repost an internship, and view student resumes.

Employers can also contact the Internships Office to discuss your individual internship needs and to establish search communication procedures.
