Welcome to New Students!
Important information about computing at Canisius for all students.

Gmail for all new incoming Canisius students: Canisius College is pleased to offer students an enhanced email experience with a Google gmail account and personalized start page. All new students are automatically set up with a Google gmail account.  To log into your account, click here.

For returning Canisius students currently using Griffmail: Your Griffmail account will cease to exist by August 2010.  You should opt-in to gmail before that time.

Your email address (username@canisius.edu) will not change, only the way you read your email.  We believe students switching to Google and gmail will realize the following benefits:
  • You will have a better email experience than with Griffmail
  • Your email addresses will remain after graduation
  • You will have access to other Google applications such as shareable calendars and documents
  • You will have a personalized start page for general searching of the web and for information that you think is important
To opt-in to gmail, go the "Current Students" page at /students/. There is a link to "Opt in to Gmail." After you have opted in, you can use the link for "Google Apps Gmail" to access your email and your personalized start page. Once you opt in, you will still have access to Griffmail, but you will not be able to switch back to Griffmail to receive mail.

For more opt-in instructions as well as directions for activating your account, moving your Griffmail Inbox to Gmail and working with labels please see the GMail Instructions (Adobe Acrobat PDF).  Once you have signed up, you can access your Canisius mail by logging in at the Google Start Page.  If you have trouble with the opt-in process, call the ITS Help Desk at (716)888-2299.  We think you will be very pleased with this change.

Gmail for your mobile device:  Setup instructions from Google to receive Gmail on any of their supported IMAP clients, such as iPhone.
