


Mission
The Justice in Action (JIA) working group is comprised of students, faculty, staff and administration who work to coordinate, publicize, and develop initiatives that educate and promote awareness about justice issues. JIA will be focusing on immigration and environmental justice during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Justice in Action will promote and support campus activities and academic programs that respond to the Jesuit commitment to social justice by:
- Coordinating and communication
- Leading and education
- Advising and influencing
Goals
- To be a clearinghouse for all justice-related activities/programs by creating, maintaining, and updating a justice database; serving as a center of awareness; assisting with communication and promotion of justice activities.
- To lead the march toward social justice by developing an annual theme; communicationg and promoting that theme; helping to educate and train students, faculty, and staff.
- To advise and influence strategic partners.
Fall 2009 Events
October 15: Sleepout (sponsored by J.U.S.T.I.C.E.)
October 20: Paola Guitierrez Galindo will be speaking on "Why We Migrate: Stories of Mexico's Displaced" at 7pm in Lyons 118.
November 19: Dolores Huerta, the co-founder of the United Farm Workers, will be speaking on "Now is the Time for Action" at 3pm in Grupp Fireside Lounge.
November 20-22: Ignatian Family Teach-in and School of the Americas protest in Columbus, GA.
Past JIA Events

Faculty and staff at the social justice roundtable discussion. The Social Justice Round table hosted four professors who presented on "The Commitment to Justice in Higher Education" on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. The professors included Dr. Jane Fisher, Dr. Jonathan Lawrence, Dr. Tanya Loughead, and Dr. Erin Robinson.
