CEO Chapter Wins Top Honors At Competition

Student group wins Best Chapter Award in the Teaching Entrepreneurship category

BUFFALO, NY -- The Canisius College chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) won first place at the 2009 CEO Annual National Conference that took place in Chicago, IL from October 22-24.

The chapter received the 2009 CEO Best Chapter Award in the Teaching Entrepreneurship category. In addition, CEO Faculty Advisor Ji-Hee Kim, PhD, associate professor of entrepreneurship in the Department of Management and Marketing, was elected to the faculty advisory board of the National CEO. Kim is the 2008 recipient of the Best CEO Chapter Faculty Advisor Award.

Canisius CEO students also led five panels. “E2 experimental Entrepreneurship: Starting Your Own Chapter Business” was led by Mark Wolbert ’10 and Justin Jolls ’09; “Idea Pitch Competitions on Your Campus” was led by Rachelle Besser ’12 and Mike Gyzl ’12; “Entrepreneurship” was led by Sarah Newton ’12 and Emily Drower 11; “Bringing Entrepreneurship Across Campus” was led by Scott Robinson ’11 and Megan Tafelski, ’12 and “The E-Team: Creating an Awesome Organization” was led by Joshua Coleman ’10 and Ryan Najmulski ’09. Presentation of these panels gave Canisius College students an opportunity to use their leadership and public speaking skills and enrich other chapters around the country.

Alison Rusak ’10, the 2009 Empire Creativity Competition Champion at Canisius College, participated in an elevator pitch competition. She placed in the top 25 out of 150 campus champions. Mark Wolbert ’10 moderated a breakout session about the how the successful launch of a high technology product into the marketplace requires a significant investment.

The Canisius CEO was created in January 2007 by Ji-Hee Kim, PhD. CEO informs, supports and inspires Canisius College students to be entrepreneurial and seek opportunities through the life long journey of creativity, innovation, entrepreneurial leadership and enterprise creation. Canisius CEO offers student member’s the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial leadership, professional communication skills, successful team building and team work skills, and knowledge in entrepreneurship by creating, designing, planning, leading, organizing, and implementing educational outreach and experiential entrepreneurship projects.

CEO is a global, non-profit organization, which offers students networking opportunities and serves as an informational resource for prospective entrepreneurs.
