Preparing Sport's Leaders

The master's degree program in sport administration provides graduate students with skills to effectively manage in a wide range of sport-related enterprises including intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sports, sport-marketing firms, special-event management, and facility management.

Beginning in Fall 2009, Canisius offers the program both on-campus and on-line.  For more information about the On-line Master of Sport Administration, visit the program web site.

The MSA program has several elements that make it unique:

  • Quality - Canisius is consistently ranked in the top tier of master's producing schools in the North in U.S. News and World Report's rankings of America's best colleges.  Both programs are accredited by New York State and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
  • Internships - The capstone experience, the internship is designed to give students practical experience in a variety of settings in the sport industry. On-line candidates may complete the internship with a sport organization anywhere in the U.S. or internationally.
  • Faculty Expertise - Our faculty consist of past and current leaders in the sport industry.  They bring their expertise and network of contacts with others in the field to the classroom.
  • Canisius MBA Network - Our network of more than 400 alumni and long-standing association with sport organizations and agencies leads to valuable internship and job opportunities.
  • MBA Courses – Our on-campus sport administration program is associated with the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, an AACSB accredited MBA program.  You will take 12 credit hours of MBA courses.
  • Opportunity – Our location in Buffalo, New York, a major league city, affords you many opportunities to intern and work in sport.
Graduates from our sport administration program pursue careers in sport marketing, media relations, facility management, special event management and other sport related careers.  They work for professional sport organizations, intercollegiate athletic departments, conferences, sport marketing firms, sports agencies and other organizations in the business of sport.

The on-campus program offers flexible scheduling for working students with courses held in the evening so you can continue to work full time.  You may begin either the on-campus or on-line program in the summer, fall or spring.  We facilitate networking by organizing events with fellow students, alumni and other industry professionals throughout the academic year.  Finally, we produce leaders.  Our graduates intern and work in major sport organizations and continue to become sport industry leaders.
