Buffalo, NY - August 1, 2023 marked a momentous day in the history of the institution. It’s the day Canisius College formally became Canisius University.
Faculty and staff arriving on campus Tuesday morning were greeted with refreshed blades (right) along the Main Street-side of Science Hall. The change is one of several that will unfold in the coming weeks as Canisius brings its new brand identity to life. Beyond the campus footprint, “the essence of Canisius University will soon echo on billboards and resonate in commercials,” said President Steve Stoute in a Tuesday message to the campus community.
Though the summer months often make for a quiet campus, the Office of Mission and Ministry is thankful to all who gathered for Mass on Tuesday with the Jesuit community (left). Those in attendance prayed for the future of the new Canisius University and for St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. (July 31 marked the Feast Day of St. Ignatius.) Canisius’ new chaplain, Rev. Fred Betti, SJ, celebrated the noon Mass.
Following Mass, the campus community headed out to Bart Mitchell Quad to enjoy some sweet treats from The Ice Cream Men (right).
We even caught a few folks, including President Steve Stoute, sporting some newly-branded Canisius University caps and visors (left).
