(2)   Parent/Graduate PLUS loan- this loan is a federal direct loan offered by the federal government. To apply, the parent wishing to take the PLUS loan (undergraduate students only) must log into www.studentaid.gov with their FSA ID. (Graduate students must log into this site with their FSA ID and apply for the Graduate PLUS loan). You can apply for a specific amount, or borrow to the max cost of your attendance. Should you opt to borrow the max amount; a financial aid counselor will determine how much you can borrow. Please note- there is a 4% origination fee that the government takes out for processing of this loan. Keep this in mind when requesting your loan amount. Once you apply for the loan, Canisius will receive your application within 24-48 business hours.

(3)   Private Loans- These are loans offered through private loan lenders. We offer a convenient vetted loan lender’s list on https://www.elmselect.com/link/query?schoolId=14if you are unsure with whom you should borrow with. Type in the amount you wish to borrow and our school name. You do not have to borrow from only these lenders; if your local bank or credit union offers student loans, you are welcome to go with them instead of our vetting lenders list. You must complete all necessary application documentation with the lender with whom you choose. When looking for the right lender consider options that help reduce your interest rate like, making payments while in school and/or signing up for auto pay. Most students will need a credit worthy co-signer. Many lenders offer co-signer release options which releases the co-signer’s responsibility from the loan after so many qualifying payments have been made back to the lender.
