Welcome to Canisius University! We are excited that you have chosen to become part of the Canisius family, and we’re looking forward to providing you with a solid foundation for your undergraduate education. To this end, we have designed a New Griff Orientation program to take care of this all-important first step in your college success.
Dates
First-Year Students:
Our mandatory New Griff Orientation (NGO) program for all incoming Fall 2024 first-year students will be divided into 4 sessions during the month of July. Students will need to attend one of the sessions. All first-year students will stay overnight for 2 nights in a residence hall during their session.
Session 1 Sunday, July 7 – Tuesday, July 9
Session 2 Wednesday, July 10 – Friday, July 12
Session 3 Monday, July 15 – Wednesday, July 17
Session 4 Thursday, July 18 – Saturday, July 20
Check – in on the first day of each session is between 3pm – 5pm. Students will depart no later than 1:30pm on the last day of each session.
The New Griff Orientation program includes engagement opportunities for students that will provide them with ample time to get to know other classmates, familiarize themselves with campus, prepare for their academic transition, and establish a sense of belonging with the Canisius community.
Families:
Welcome to our Summer 2024 Family Orientation! Family Orientation will take place during each session. The program will run from 8:30am - 4pm. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at orientation@canisius.edu.
Family orientation will be held on the second day of each session.

- Session 3 Tuesday, July 16
- Session 4 Friday, July 19
For those family members attending, the student will indicate the family members' interest in attending orientation when they register for their session. Follow up emails requesting confirmation of attendance will then be sent directly to the family members at the email address provided by the student. A detailed schedule will become available as the date of the session nears. Attendance for 2 family members is free. A charge of $30 per extra family member can be paid at family orientation.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of available space on campus we are unable to provide housing for parents/guardians or additional family members during the New Griff Orientation (NGO) sessions.
Transfer Students:
Our mandatory New Griff Orientation (NGO) program for all Fall 2024 new undergraduate transfer students will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Check-in will begin at 8am. The program will end at 4:30pm.

International (non-Canadian) and Exchange Students:
It is very important that International Students (excluding Canadian students) plan your arrival for the mandatory International Student Orientation program. Following International Student Orientation, you will then transition to the New Griff Orientation program on August 23 - 24. For more information on International Student Orientation, please contact the office of International Student Programs (ISP) at 716-888-2400 or visit the ISP website.

Registration
NGO Registration for the new incoming Fall 2024 first year, transfer and international/exchange students will open beginning Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Registration will only be open to those that have deposited with Admissions. Students will access their orientation registration in their myCanisius portal. Students must log-in to their myCanisius account, using their username and password found on their acceptance letter. One of the items in their checklist is to register for orientation.
