Buffalo, NY - Canisius University is introducing a new accelerated academic program for the start of the fall 2024 year. The 4+1 in psychology and data analytics is designed to meet the demand for skilled professionals in the fields of data science and analytics, which is projected to grow 35 percent by 2032, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unique program enables students to earn a bachelor of science (BS) degree in psychology and a master of science (MS) in data analytics in just five years, providing a streamlined pathway to advanced education and career readiness.
This new area of study educates students about the human mind and behavior through a combination of theoretical study and practical applications. They also gain skills in research methods, critical thinking and effective community. Students then leverage these skills in the data analytics program, where they learn to digest complex data sets to uncover behavioral patterns, identify social trends, optimize organizational processes and inform policy decisions.
The 4+1 in psychology and data analytics is the second accelerated advanced degree program offered by the Psychology Department.
In 2022, the department introduced a 3+2 partner program that pairs a bachelor's degree in psychology with a master's degree in social work. The accelerated program was made possible through an agreement between Canisius and the University at Buffalo School of Social Work.
“One of Canisius University’s strategic priorities is to develop more innovative academic offerings that align with the evolving needs of our students and the workforce,” adds Delap. “By offering streamlined pathways to advanced degrees, students are able to reach their professional goals faster and enter the workforce sooner, saving valuable time and expense.”
