BUFFALO, NY – ArtsCanisius presents its March events, which are free and open to the public unless otherwise specified.
- Tuesday, March 10 – Informally-Formal Chamber Recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The performance will feature Roman Mekinulov, cello; Sebnem Mekinolov, cello; and Alexander Mekinolov, piano. The program features the Mekinolov family performing a variety of works for one and two cellos and piano by Vivaldi, Golterman, Saint Saens, as well as a Hadyn variation on Brahms for two pianos and operatic arias by Verdi for soprano and cello transcriptions.
Roman Mekinolov is the principal cellist of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO), a position he has held for the last 14 years. He has been featured numerous times as a soloist with the BPO, and appeared in more than 80 concerts of chamber music around Western New York, and with the Jupiter Chamber Players in New York City, the St. Petersburg Quartet and with chamber players in Naples, FL and at the Virginia Arts Festival.
Sebnem Meklinov is an award-winning soprano. She serves as a lecturer at Daemen College, directs the choir for the Jewish Community of Greater Buffalo, and teaches private voice lessons. Mekinilov has appeared numerous times as a soloist with the BPO and the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra.
Alexander Meklinov is a distinguished faculty member at the Music Institute of Long Island. As a chamber musician, he has performed extensively with various soloists throughout the United States, Austria, Italy and Brazil.
Tickets for this event are $15 general admission and $7 for students and are available at the door.
- Tuesday, March 24 – Student/Faculty Recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. This performance will feature both students and Canisius University faculty members.
- Tuesday, March 31 – Meet-the-Faculty Recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The performance, entitled “Bach Birthday Celebration Recital,” will feature members of Canisius University’s music faculty and the Canisius University Chorale under the direction of Frank Scinta. The recital will highlight the music of J.S. Bach including the Sonata No. 1 in B minor for Violin and Harpsichord, BWV 1014, the Flute Sonata in E-Flat Major, BWV 1031, and Sonata in D Major for Cello and Harpsichord. Canisius faculty performers include Ansgarius Aylward, violin; Jane Cary, harpsichord; Nicole McPherson and Brian Eckenrode, cello; and James Wright, baritone.
The ArtsCanisius series at Canisius University presents concerts by professional musicians, including members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Canisius faculty, art shows and lectures by professional artists, as well as student recitals.
