
Buffalo, NY - The Canisius women's basketball team is set to begin its 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship campaign on Tuesday, March 11, with a first-round matchup against Manhattan. The Golden Griffins (10-20, 9-11) will face the Jaspers (15-14, 9-11) at noon in Atlantic City, N.J., at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
The game will be a rematch of a February 27th regular-season contest, where Manhattan defeated Canisius 71-35. The winner of this first-round game will advance to take on top-seeded Fairfield in the quarterfinals at noon on Wednesday, March 12.
Canisius enters the tournament on a strong note, having won three consecutive games, including a 50-47 victory over Saint Peter’s in their regular-season finale. Graduate student Jaela Johnson led the Griffs with 17 points and a career-high eight rebounds, while sophomore Mary Copple continued her impressive three-point shooting, scoring 12 points on 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Junior Franka Wittenberg contributed six points and seven assists in the win.
Fans can watch the first-round matchup live on ESPN+ as the Golden Griffins aim to make a deep run in the five-day tournament. The championship game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.
