Joellen Thurman

A Canisius alumna, Professor Thurman has earned a B.S. and MSEd in elementary and special education. She was first hired as a special education teacher at King Center Charter School in 2006, and has continued her professional career there as the school's Dean of Students and Assistant Principal, her current position. In this role, Professor Thurman prioritizes her school community, student academic and social-emotional well-being, and high expectations of student performance. 

Professor Thurman has served as an adjunct professor in the Teacher Education and Leadership department since 2012. She is currently teaching SPE 580, Classroom Management, which helps her prepare new teachers to enter the classroom.
