4+1 Math and Data Analytics

Buffalo, NY - Canisius University is introducing a new accelerated academic program for the start of the fall 2024 year.  The 4+1 in math and data analytics is designed to meet the demand for skilled professionals in the fields of data science and analytics, which is projected to grow 35 percent by 2032, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The unique program enables students to earn a bachelor of science (BS) in mathematics and a master of science (MS) in data analytics in just five years, providing a streamlined pathway to advanced education and career readiness.

The program offers rigorous training in a wide range of mathematical concepts, theories and methods, leading to essential skill development in problem-solving, logical reasoning and the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas.  These skills are crucial underpinnings for the study of data analytics, in which students learn how to analyze data and present their findings in ways that help businesses, institutions, nonprofits and other organizations make key decisions.   The program couples this technical expertise with an education in written and oral communication, teamwork and critical thinking - leadership skills that will empower graduates to thrive in the professional world.

The 4+1 in mathematics and data analytics is among a series of newly introduced accelerated advanced degree programs at Canisius.  The university is also home to accelerated programs in psychology and data analytics, psychology and social work, chiropractic care, law, and computer science and cybersecurity.

“One of Canisius University’s strategic priorities is to develop more innovative academic offerings that align with the evolving needs of our students and the workforce,” adds Delap.  “By offering streamlined pathways to advanced degrees, students are able to reach their professional goals faster and enter the workforce sooner, saving valuable time and expense.”

Canisius was founded in 1870 in Buffalo, NY, and is one of 27 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S. Consistently ranked among the top institutions in the Northeast, Canisius offers undergraduate, graduate and pre-professional programs distinguished by close student-faculty collaboration, mentoring and an emphasis on ethical, purpose-driven leadership.
