Dr. Reeds has been teaching Sport Psychology , Motor Behavior and Coaching Theory at Canisius University for 34 years, 30 years as a full time faculty member and now 4 years as an Adjunct Instructor. He arrived in Buffalo from Nova Scotia, Canada where he taught courses in Sport Psychology and coached the Men's Soccer Team at Acadia University. Our teams were ranked as high as 8th in Canada. Following his time at Acadia University, Reeds served as the Men's Soccer coach, at Canisius University. We won the MAAC Conference Championship in 1996. Reeds also served as the Western NY Olympic Development Coach for the U17 boys . During his academic career, he served as the Department Chair and Director of the Graduate Programs at Canisius University for 11 years. He has also served as the Assistant General Manager for the Hamilton Steelers, a professional soccer team in the CSL. Reeds previously served as the Associate Athletic Director at Christian Central Academy in Williamsville NY. He is currently supervising student teachers at Canisius in Physical and Health Education and serve as the Coaches Section Chair for the NY State Western Zone . Reeds is a partner in Five Star Training and Sports Performance, a sports skills and mental training development consulting business located here in Western NY.
Awards
Dr. Reeds earned the Varsity "M" Award for soccer at McMaster University and the Varsity "T" Award for Soccer at the University of Toronto. He was recognized twice as Atlantic University Athletic Association (AUAA) Coach of the Year. Reeds was inducted into the Acadia University Athletic Hall of Fame in the Builder category. Reeds was named Canisius University School of Education Teacher of the Year, the NY State Western Zone Higher Education Teacher of the Year and was bestowed the prestigious honor of Professor Emeritus.
Publications
Dr. Reeds has published research in sport psychology focuses on personality, perceptual styles, stimulus detection and coaching effectiveness. It has been published in various prestigious journals. His statistical model used to predict athletic success has been cited in the World Sport Psychology Handbook. This work has been presented around the world at various symposia in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Caracas ,Venezuela and in Rome Italy.
