Buffalo, NY - Beginning in fall 2024, Canisius University will offer a new bachelor's degree in biomedical science. The undergraduate program equips students for dynamic careers in healthcare, allied health and research.
The program integrates scientific training with ethical instruction to foster a foundation of integrity and responsibility. Drawing on the expertise of faculty from Canisius' distinguished science departments - including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, psychology and sociology - the program offers a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the complexities of human health and disease. Throughout, students engage in hands-on laboratory work, collaborate with faculty mentors on research and participate in internship opportunities that provide real-world experience.
"Biomedical science is a field ripe with opportunities for discovery and innovation," says Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs Joe Delap, PhD. "This new program prepares graduates to pursue advanced studies in medicine, dentistry, public health and physician assistant students, and ready to lead in the field's rapidly evolving landscape."
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers related to biomedical science earn a median salary that is more than two times the average for all workers. Additionally, the field is projected to grow faster than the average for other jobs throughout the next decade.
