Canisius received a $37,000 Benedict Silverman Foundation (BSF) grant to extend the university’s Reading Ready program at the Dr. Lydia T. Wright School (PS 89). The grant will also be used to offer the literacy intervention program at PS 17 in spring 2024.

Reading Ready is licensed by BSF, a mission-driven family foundation that promotes excellence and equity in American K-12 public schools by supporting research-based literacy instruction.

This work is mutually beneficial because it provides our teacher candidates with high-quality professional development, including exposure to the latest research on the science of reading,” said Elizabeth Turner, director of Educational Partnerships at Canisius. “In addition, Reading Ready provides needed literacy tutoring for students in Buffalo public schools.”

This is the third grant the university received from BSF. Canisius received a $7,000 grant in spring 2023, and a $6,200 grant in summer 2023, from the foundation.
