Buffalo, NY - In a wide-ranging conversation on America's leading higher education podcast, Canisius University President Steve Stoute discussed his vision for making quality education more accessible and eliminating barriers to student success.
Stoute appeared as a guest on the March 10 episode of The EdUp Experience, a premier resource for education leaders nationwide. During the hour-long interview, the university's first-generation college graduate outlined how Canisius is balancing tradition with transformation while creating pathways to success for students.
President Stoute highlighted several groundbreaking initiatives during the discussion, including Canisius' test-free admissions policy—the first in Western New York and among only two Jesuit institutions nationwide—which removes all consideration of standardized tests in the admissions process.
The conversation also explored the recently launched Canisius Buffalo Promise Scholarship, which covers 100% of tuition after government aid for qualified Buffalo-area students. The program is expected to benefit approximately 800 admitted students and generate an estimated $25 million in savings for families in its first year alone.
As a university deeply embedded in Buffalo's urban landscape, Stoute emphasized how Canisius leverages its location to enhance the educational experience through partnerships with the city's medical campus, multinational companies, sports teams, and community-based organizations. He further detailed plans for a comprehensive Student Success Center and renovations to the historic Old Main building, transforming it into an innovative academic hub as part of President Stoute's vision to establish Canisius as the premier "Student Success University" in the region.
The EdUp Experience podcast, which focuses on higher education and education technology, primarily features university presidents and reaches an audience of higher education influencers including administrators, faculty, and trustees.
